How it all started...
In 1985, Rev. Gary Kidwell was called by the Christian Church (DOC) in Kentucky to plant a new church in south Lexington. An interest meeting was held in the backyard of Rev. Kidwell’s residence, underneath two pine trees, in October, 1985. The new church was then named Twin Pines Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
In the early years Twin Pines held worship services in a day care center, an apartment clubhouse, and at Lexington Theological Seminary. The original charter was signed on Easter Sunday, 1987.

Expanding the vision...
In 1989, a groundbreaking was held for a building to be located at 1139 Tanbark Road. For 20 years, this building housed and helped the congregation of Twin Pines to thrive and grow.
Then in November of 2009, we were excited to put an addition onto our original building with our Disciple of Life Center. This large fellowship hall with additional classrooms, offices and other facilities continues to be the corner stone of Twin Pines worship and ministry.
In 2016, we were proud to officially have our church come out as Open and Affirming, reaffirming our belief that this is a place where all means ALL.

Where we are headed...
Twin Pines is proud to continue many of our time honored traditions, such as being a place for the prodigals and outcasts and believing that our greatest calling is to be God's hands in the community.
We have been active supporters of Habitat for Humanity and have helped to build 42 (Going on 43) homes for our community here in Lexington since 1991. Our missions team works diligently to constantly find new ways that we can help those in need.
In 2026, we called Ptr. Brenton Yadon to be our Senior Minister to help lead us into the future.
